Sandbagging

The sandbagging poker term refers to when the player holds back and just calls the bets despite having a very strong poker hand.

Sandbagging is a popular technique among players that want to disguise their hand strength, provoke a bluff from one of their opponents, or simply get someone in a check-raise situation.

For example, if a player gets pocket rockets and the flop produces a K, Q, 8, they might make a weaker bet in an effort to trick their opponents into thinking they have a weaker pair.

If one of the other players has a king in their hand, they might misconstrue this and raise aggressively. In return, the player that’s sandbagging can call or even re-raise the bet.
