If you’re looking for a fun, vibrant version of Jacks or Better for your video poker needs, look no further than this addition from Tom Horn Gaming. Reinventing classic games is what this game provider does best. And this version of Jacks or Better poker makes this incredibly clear.

All of the expected features of the game are here. And his includes getting a mega jackpot when you land a royal flush. You do need to bet a minimum of five coins on the round though.

Playing Jacks or Better

The aim of the game hasn’t changed in this new iteration. There are 52 cards in a standard deck in the game, and you’re playing against the dealer (or computer, in this case). For the first hand, five cards are dealt, but you can hold as many cards as you’d like in order to get the best hand possible.

Any leftover cards are simply discarded and replaced with new ones from the same 52-card deck. Paying combinations of cards begin, as the name suggests, with pairs of Jacks.

Once you’ve looked at the paytable, all you need to do is choose your bets. Then, when you’ve selected the coin size, you can hit play and see how the cards fall. You can also toggle on the ‘Hints on’ button at the bottom of the screen to give you more help when choosing how to proceed with a hand.

In this way, the game helps you learn the rules of poker a little and gives you some strategic nudges, which I found very helpful for new players.

Graphics and Design

Like many other versions of this game, there’s not that much that can be done to improve the layout of the game. After all, as players, we do need to be able to find our way around quickly and easily. The game is on a grid, just like others are, and the cards are placed (five of them), in large size right on the main screen.

For easy reading, the paytable fills up much of the screen, offering clear bets and winning potentials for each outcome. The color scheme still follows a more traditional look, sticking with a red and blue theme throughout without looking too dated as some of the other versions do. Overall, it has a more flashy look to it, with updated graphics that breathe a bit of life into the game.

Additionally, it all works very well, with minimal load times. I particularly like the fast load and deal times as I don’t really want to be waiting around too much. It may have been developed using Flash, but that hasn’t stopped it from being upgraded more recently in order to be playable on a mobile device.

Betting Limits

Jacks or Better Betting limits

As with all games, there are betting limits in place. Here, there is a minimum bet of $0.02 with a maximum of $100 for each round.

This makes it a great option for an eclectic range of players covering various budgets. I am also a fan of the autoplay function. Simply set your bets and the number of rounds to play and let the game do the rest to see if you can score a win or two.

Overall, I found this game an incredibly easy game to play. Yes, I have experience with all types of poker online, but the helpful additions to this Jacks and Better game make it more accessible. Let’s not forget that it also has an RTP of 99.54%, which means there are some generous rewards and payouts up for grabs.
