Ante

The ante poker term refers to the money placed in the pot before the hand even starts It motivates the players to enter the pot, as they would most likely play conservatively or just wait for a strong hand if there was no money in the pot.
It’s key to remember that the ante is different from the small blind and the big blind. The two blinds are forced bets for the two players to the left of the button. An ante is not a part of the bet.
For example, when someone puts an ante into the pot and no one bets when for the particular round, all you’d win is the ante. Lately, the big blind ante has been quite popular, especially in tournaments.
