To hit in poker means to catch the right card or series of cards that you were hoping for. When you’re trying to make the best possible poker hand, you need to “hit” the right cards to do so.
For example, if you have an AQ hand and the flop produces an A, 8, 4, you can say that it hit you. In this context, the term refers to you simply catching the right card for your poker hand, but doesn’t necessarily mean that you’re certain to win the pot.
