The New WPT Format, WPT Prime Will Be Held in Three Asian Countries
1 minute
A new tournament series format has been announced by the World Poker Tour. Called WPT Prime, the new series will take place in the same venues as the Main Tour and will have much cheaper buy-ins.
This new format has been created to make WPT tournaments more accessible to the average player.
It seems that the only thing that will be different is the price, as WPT Prime will have almost all of the same features such as the shot clock, live coverage, and WPT titles as the Main Tour.
Points won in the Main Event of the new format will also count towards the WPT POY leaderboard.
Bye WPTDeepStacks, Hello WPT Prime
WPT Prime will replace the current WTPDeepStack Series that has been live since 2014. The last three tournaments of the WTPDeepStack will be held in Amsterdam, Sydney, and Thunder Valley.
The new format will be introduced in May in Vietnam’s Crown Poker Club. After this event, two more WPT stops will take place in Asia this year.
The second one will be in NagaWorld Integrated Resort in Cambodia and the third one in the Chinese Texas Hold’em Poker Association in Taiwan.
Asian Tour Schedule
The first WPT Prime event will be held in Hanoi from 19-30 May. It will feature a Main Event with 1,100 USD buy-in.
The second WPT Prime event will be held in Cambodia’s Mekong region from 11-23 August. It will feature a Main Event with the same 1,100 USD buy-in.
The host of the final WPT Prime event in 2022 will be the Chinese Texas Hold’em Poker Association in Taipei from 11-21 November. Players will have the opportunity to play the Main Event for a buy-in of $1,077 USD.
