Good news for all live poker fans! Within a few weeks, the Live Irish Poker Open is schedule to take place once again.

The Irish authorities decided last year that the event couldn’t take place because of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Luckily, this year the poker event is allowed to take place, and it will be held 11-18 April 2022 in the Citywest Hotel Dublin, in Ireland.

The Irish government has decided to ease down on occupancy restrictions and social distancing, which is why the event can take place this year.

Poker festival organizers Paul O’Reilly and J.P. McCann said the luck of the Irish has finally come through, and they are both extremely happy they are allowed to host this year’s Irish Poker Open.

History of the Irish Poker Open

The Irish Poker Open is one of the most notable live tournament series, which has its roots all the way back in 1979 when Irish poker player Terry Rogers began hosting poker events in Europe.

His idea was to replicate United States poker series like the World Series of Poker and the Amarillo Slim’s Super Bowl of Poker.

The first Irish Poker Open took place in 1980, and it is officially the world’s second-oldest poker series, with the WSOP being the number one.

O’Reilly and McCann have always said how excited they were to launch the Irish Poker Open every year. However, this year’s Irish Poker Open 2022 is very special for them.

According to them, people are living in very difficult times nowadays, and the rebirth of the Irish Poker Open is of significant importance for the live poker scene.

McCann and O’Reilly are, therefore, really looking forward to welcoming all Irish and international poker players to the tournament and will make sure both players and staff remain safe.

Irish Poker Open 2022 Schedule

The Irish Poker Open lasts 8 days and includes 14 events in total. Each event has a different buy-in, ranging from €350 to €5,000.

IPO 2022 schedule

Alongside the main schedule, there will also be some satellite tournaments and low-entry complementary events taking place.

The two events that most players are looking forward to are the ones with €2,000 and €5,000 buy-ins.

The main event of the Irish Poker Open has a €1,150 buy-in. The last time the Irish Poker Open took place, there were 1807 participants for the main event, which led to a €1.8m prize pool. Weijie Zheng won the 2019 Irish Poker Open and took home €300,000.

Some online poker rooms will also feature qualifying tournaments for the Irish Poker Open. At both Paddy Power and partypoker, players have the chance to participate in satellites offering live IPO seats.
